James Brown Items Fetch Eight Hundred Thousand Dollars At AuctionJuly 18, 2008
Classic and rare James Brown memorabilia has fetched $800,000 at auction in New York.
The late singer's jumpsuits and some of his most famous awards were part of the collection, which went under the hammer yesterday (July 17th). The most popular item at the auction was a black cape, which was embossed with Brown's name. The item raised $47,500 - over twice its estimate. Three pink leather sofas from Brown's home also fetched $40,000 at Christie's auction house. Money raised from the auction will be used to pay Brown's outstanding tax bills. The soul singer died on Christmas day in 2006. (by Jason Gregory) See also: James Brown Daughter Claims 'Body Has Been Stolen' (12.03.2010)
