Interpol Will Survive Without Carlos Dengler, Drummer Insists

July 27, 2010
Interpol Will Survive Without Carlos Dengler, Drummer InsistsInterpol drummer Sam Fogarino has insisted that the band will survive without bassist Carlos Dengler, who quit earlier this year.

Dengler played a major role in composing the band's forthcoming self-titled album, but announced his departure in May to pursue other interests.

In an interview with Spinner, Fogarino said Dengler “fiercely” guarded his duties in the band.

However, he said he was confident that the remaining members would be able to record another album without him.

“He felt like that was his baby, which was fine, because he's a really good arranger and really good with harmony,” Fogarino said of Dengler.

“But it's kind of a stupid question [for us to ask]: Who's better? Who's better is kind of crazy. It's just a different take.

“Any four of us can get behind a keyboard and -- not to dismiss his talent -- come up with an interesting harmony or melody. I don't think we're afraid to work on music without him.”

'Interpol', which is the follow-up to 2007's 'Our Love To Admire', was recorded in London and New York.

It is due to be released in September.
