Jimi Hendrix Fans To Get 'Reality TV' Look At GuitaristMarch 23, 2009
Candid footage of the late Jimmy Hendrix is to be released on DVD, his sister has announced.
Janie Hendrix said the footage, shot around the guitarist's 1969 performance at London's Royal Albert Hall, provided a “reality TV” insight to the star. Hendrix was followed by a camera crew for a month and the film shows him at home and hanging out backstage. The footage will be released later this year as part of a new deal with Universal Music Publishing, who have become the exclusive administrator of the Hendrix catalogue outside the US. Hendrix, who is president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, which controls the guitarist's music in the US, also revealed that there was another "10 more years of Hendrix music" still to be released. "Currently, I am in the studio transferring tapes of Band of Gypsy's performances that have never been released before," she told Billboard. She added that Experience Hendrix expected to release two new albums before 2010. Hendrix's catalogue still sells around 1.2million copies a year. Hendrix was found dead in London in September 1970. The guitarist’s death has never fully been explained. (by Jason Gregory) See also: New Jimi Hendrix Recordings Released Next Month (16.02.2010)
