Slash: I Didn't Know If 'Appetite For Destruction' Was Any GoodApril 3, 2008
Slash has taken some off from musing over the divisions within Velvet Revolver to speak about Guns N’ Roses’ classic album ‘Appetite For Destruction.’
The band’s 1987 debut is being celebrated on a Zane Lowe feature called Masterpieces on Radio 1, which looks back at some of the greatest albums of all time. Surprisingly, Slash said that when Guns N’ Roses were making the record he wasn’t even sure if it was good or not. He explains: "Who would have thought? I remember thinking, 'Maybe the record isn't that great'. "When I was a kid, there were certain records that anybody who was anybody, who was cool, had in their collection. And we actually made one of those records, I'm very proud of that." Slash – real name Saul Hudson – went on to speaking about the raucous time he had recording the long-player. "The actual recording was pretty calm, I mean there was some partying but we were pretty focused. "Like for me, it was Jack Daniel's and coffee in the morning and work from noon till 10 at night. "Then I'd go out and get crazy and then wake up in the morning, wherever I was, and try and work out how to get a ride back to the studio."
