Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose Talks About 'Chinese Democracy'

December 15, 2008
Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose Talks About 'Chinese Democracy'Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has spoken for the first time about the band’s new album on an internet chat room.

In an informal conversation with fans, serialised by Billboard, he discussed a range of issues, including ‘Chinese Democracy’ and his relationship with former band members.

The band’s album was released in September after a fourteen-year wait, and is reported to have cost Rose $2million to make.

Although the singer didn’t discuss the reasons behind the long album delays, he did reveal that unheard songs which failed to make the record could be released in the future.

“For now we'll concentrate and keep our focus on this album but I will say I've always thought of it as a double," he wrote.

He also said that a video for album track ‘Better’ would be released "in a week or so”.

Rose has been blamed by unnamed record label sources for ‘Chinese Democracy’s’ poor performance in the US charts.

After opening sales of around 500,000 copies, the album has fallen rapidly down the Billboard chart.

When asked by one fan if he had avoided the press, Rose replied: "What I have to say a lot of people have no desire to hear."

Another fan also questioned Rose’s reclusive personal life in the chat, to which the frontman replied: "Your misconceptions and fantasies along with your misguided sense of entitlement don't dictate my actions.”

In the fourteen years that Guns N’ Roses have taken to release ‘Chinese Democracy’, Rose has remained the only full time and original member.

When asked why the group’s original line up, which included guitarist Slash, had fallen apart, Rose claimed fans had been given an inaccurate account by ex-band members.

"What I can say now is you've been told a lot of things in order for others to promote themselves that factually they cannot backup in regard to either," he wrote.

“They are complicated legally, financially and have devoured a good portion of my life."
