Jimi Hendrix Beats Guns N' Roses and Led Zeppelin To Greatest Guitar Riff Title

November 27, 2009
Jimi Hendrix Beats Guns N' Roses and Led Zeppelin To Greatest Guitar Riff TitleJimi Hendrix's guitar part on 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' has been crowned the greatest riff of all time.

The 1968 classic, which featured on the Jimi Hendrix Experience's album 'Electric Ladyland', came out ahead of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine' in the poll conducted by Music Radar.

Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water' and Derek and the Dominos' 'Layla' completed the top five respectively.

AC/DC, Metallica, Nirvana, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones all featured in the top ten.

Elsewhere, Muse's 'Plug in Baby' featured at number 11 and The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army' at 15.

Music Radar editor, Mike Goldsmith, said: “Our poll seems to indicate one thing - in 2009 classic rock still rules.”
