Johnny Marr: David Cameron Can Like One Smiths Song After Forest Sale U-TurnFebruary 17, 2011
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has given David Cameron permission to “like” on of the band's songs following the government's decision to ditch plans to sell state-owned woodland.
In December, Marr “forbid” the prime minister from listening to the band's music, despite Cameron's instance that he was a long-time fan. But Marr has now said the Conservative politician can enjoy The Smiths' hit 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish' - but “only for two weeks”. The government's proposal would have seen thousands of acres of woodland in England sold. But they are now expected to announce that the plans have been halted following a huge backlash from rival parties and the public. Cameron's favourite bands also include Keane, who expressed sadness when the Tories used one of their songs during the General Election campaign.
