The Stooges, Genesis, Abba Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of FameMarch 16, 2010
The Stooges and Abba were among at acts inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York on Monday (March 15).
Genesis, reggae star Jimmy Cliff and The Hollies also joined the prestigious roll of honour. Abba, whose inclusion had raised eyebrows among critics, were represented by Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Andersson said the group were “deeply honoured”, but insisted they would never perform togerther again. However, The Stooges, fronted by Iggy Pop, and The Hollies did perform at the ceremony after collecting their prizes. Genesis, who were inducted by Trey Anastasio of Phish, were represented by their original line-up, except for singer Peter Gabriel. "He has a very legitimate and genuine excuse,” Mike Rutherford said of his ex-bandmate's absence. “He's actually starting a tour." Bands become eligible for inclusion to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twenty-five years after the release of their first recording.
