Dolly Parton 'Hurt And Humiliated By Racist Sound Bites'

May 15, 2008
Dolly Parton 'Hurt And Humiliated By Racist Sound Bites'Country singer Dolly Parton says she was “shocked, hurt and humiliated” by a radio station that manipulated recordings from one of her audio books.

The doctored excerpts, which created seemingly racist and sexually explicit sound bites from Parton’s book, were broadcast last week on Howard Stern’s satellite radio.

"I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me,” Parton said, in a statement addressing the issue.

“In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing. Please accept my apology for them and certainly know I had nothing to do with this."

Parton concluded by saying, that “if there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it's going to be over this.”

“Just wanted you to know that I am completely devastated by this," she said.

Stern’s radio show frequently takes exerts from books and re-edits them to take them out of contact.
