Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has made his stage debut in the Broadway musical American Idiot.
The singer will star as drug dealer St Jimmy for eight performances until October 3. Actor Tony Vincent, who usually appears in the role, is on leave until October 12 due to a family matter. Video footage from Armstrong’s performance on tuesdya (September 28) has surfaced online, and shows the singer alongside his co-stars. Armstrong composed and co-wrote the musical, which is based on the band’s 2004 album of the same name. American Idiot has become a surprise hit at New York's St James Theatre, despite receiving a mixed response from critics. Following his appearance in the production, Armstrong is set to rejoin Green Day ahead of a South American tour.
