Pete Doherty Sings Nazi Anthem At Germany GigNovember 30, 2009
Pete Doherty was pulled off stage at a show in Germany over the weekend after allegedly singing the Nazi anthem.
The Babyshambles man was performing at the the on3 festival in Munich on Saturday night when he launched into the song. When the crowd started to boo and jeer, security removed Doherty. Organisers Bayerischer Rundfunk said in a statement: "We decided to stop Peter Doherty's appearance on stage as quickly as possible. The live radio broadcast was cut immediately." The first verse of the 'Song Of Germany' was used by Adolf Hitler's party as the national anthem when they were in power. However, after World War II finished this was dropped and Germany adopted the third verse as its anthem. Earlier this month, Babyshambles unveiled an anti-British National Party track 'The BNP Blues' at the Proud Galleries in Camden.
