Britney Spears Slammed Over 'Extremely Offensive' Song LyricsDecember 8, 2008
Song lyrics on Britney Spears new album, ‘Circus’, have been branded “offensive” by parents in Australia.
Fears have been raised over the meaning behind the song, ‘If You Seek Amy’, which when sung by Spears sounds like “F U C K me”. Leonie Barsenbach said she was “astonished and totally taken aback” when she discovered her two children – aged 5 and 7 years old – “walking around the house singing 'F U C K’”. “When I asked them what it was, they told me it was Britney Spears. I was horrified,” she added. Mrs Barsenbach bought her children the album when it was released earlier this month because they are both fans of the singer. In the song, Spears sings the line: “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy”, which sounds like: “All of the boys and all of the girls are begging to F U C K me.” Mrs Barsenbach told Undercover news that the intention behind the lyric was “extremely blatant and offensive”, even though the album doesn’t come with an adult content warning. “I feel I have been deceived into believing that this was acceptable content for children but instead it is objectionable,” she added. As previously reported, Spears' album is expected to go number one in America next week after selling over two hundred thousand copies on its first day.
