Gorillaz Pipped By Boyzone To UK Number One AlbumMarch 15, 2010
Boyzone have beaten Gorillaz to number one on the UK album chart, despite initially being behind on the midweek countdown.
The cartoon band’s new album, ‘Plastic Beach’, had been expected to top the chart on Sunday (March 14). But it lost out to the Irish group’s new album ‘Brother’, which is their first studio LP since the death of band mate Stephen Gately last year. Elsewhere on the album chart, last week’s number one, ‘Lights’, by Ellie Goudling dropped out of the top-10 to number sixteen. ‘A Curious Thing’ by Amy MacDonald was a new entry at number four, while the cast recording for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Love Never Dies debuted at number ten. In the singles countdown, Tinie Tempah claimed the top spot for a second week with ‘Pass Out’, according to the Official Charts Company. Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ was at number two, while youngster Justin Bieber and Ludacris’ collaboration, ‘Baby’, climbed to number three from outside the top-100.
