Boy George Found Guilty Of False Imprisonment, Faces JailDecember 5, 2008
Boy George has been found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort in his East London home.
Audun Carlsen claims that the former Culture Club star, whose real name is George O’Dowd, chained him up to a wall in his house in Shoreditch in April last year. Judge Radford told O'Dowd that he would "likely" to face jail. “The fact that your bail is being continued does not imply that this will be dealt with by a non-custodial sentence,” he said. "I don't want any false expectations created." The pair first met each other at a pornographic photo shoot after making contact on the social networking website Gaydar. O'Dowd, who decided not to testify, alleged that Carlsen hacked into his personal computer after their first meeting. When the pair met again at the former Culture Club singer's house, the escort claimed he was assaulted and tied to a wall. The court was told during the trial, which has lasted over a week, that Carlsen had sold his story to a Norwegian magazine so that he could flee the UK. The jury retired to consider its verdict yesterday. O'Dowd is due to be sentenced on January 16th. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Boy George Pays Tribute To Poly Styrene (26.04.2011)
