Blur Star To Run For Labour In Next General ElectionFebruary 25, 2008
Blur drummer Dave Rowntree will stand for Labour in the next general election, it’s been confirmed.
Rowntree, who moved into politics after the group released their last album, ‘Think Tank’, in 2002, will run for the seat of Cities of London and Westminster. The drummer will have to overturn an 8,095 majority held by conservative Mark Field, who currently occupies the seat, reports The Times. Rowntree, who failed in a bid to become a London councilor last year, says he hopes he can prevent “a whole generation of non-voters” by inspiring young people. Rowntree’s decision to run is likely to put an end to hopes for a Blur reunion in the near future. (by Jason Gregory) See also: Blur To Release Full Album In 2011 (20.12.2010)
