Blur Unleash Emotional Headline Set At Glastonbury Festival 2009

June 28, 2009
Blur Unleash Emotional Headline Set At Glastonbury Festival 2009Blur delivered an emotional headlining slot on the Pyramid Stage as they returned to the Glastonbury Festival tonight (June 28).

The band, who have reformed for a series of summer shows, delivered a greatest hits set, which included such tracks as ‘Parklife’ and ‘Country House’.

It was the first time Blur had performed at the event in Somerset in over a decade.

As expected, Blur attracted the biggest crowd of the weekend to the Pyramid Stage as thousands scrambled to relive their Britpop memories.

The performance was also watched live by viewers on BBC2 and followed by fans on Twitter.

Blur began their set with with a raucous rendition of ‘Girls & Boys’ and from there on in did not relent.

Other songs included ‘Song 2’, ‘Beetlebum’, ‘This Is A Low’ and closer ‘The Universal’.

Although eleven years had passed since the band last appeared at the festival, all four members still looked youthful on stage.

Frontman Damon Albarn joked with the crowd throughout the set, often jumping around the stage, while guitarist Graham Coxon, drummer Dave Rowntree and bassist Alex James were all on top form.

Albarn said simply at the end of ‘The Universal’: “Take care. Goodnight.”

Blur are due to play two headlining sets of their own in London’s Hyde Park this Thursday and Friday.

Until now, their reunion has only seen the band perform a series of intimate gigs at venues that helped launched their career.
