Babybird Mock Morrissey's Echo Arena Drink Cup IncidentNovember 13, 2009
Sheffield indie veterans Babybird mocked Morrissey at their show at the Hoxton Bar & Grill in London last night.
Frontman Stephen Jones jokingly threatened to storm off stage, aping Morrissey at the Echo Arena, after drummer Robert Gregory threw a plastic pint cup at his head. According to NME.com, Jones said shortly before 'The Way You Are': “I want to dedicate this next song to Morrissey who has a glass tattoed on the side of his head.” From the back of the stage Gregory then launched a missile at Jones' head. The singer remarked: “That’s it, I’m leaving the stage, I’ve got a broken fingernail.” There was a huge press presence at the show as it was rumoured that Johnny Depp would perform with the band, but unfortunately failed to show. Long-term Babybird fan Depp makes a brief appearance on the band's upcoming fifth studio album 'Ex-Maniac'.
