Amy Winehouse Confirmed For Specials Collaboration At Nelson Mandela ConcertJune 27, 2008
Jerry Dammers of The Specials has confirmed that Amy Winehouse and other performers will unite for a singalong at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert in Hyde Park later.
The group will sing 'Free Nelson Mandela', which Dammers originally wrote in 1984 against Mr Mandela's imprisonment. The original version of the song was performed by the Specials and reached number nine in the UK charts. Speaking to BBC 6Music, The Specials star said: “I don't know whether I'm supposed to say this, but Amy Winehouse will be singing it and everyone will be singing it. "Everyone who took part in the concert, it's going to be the finale." Leona Lewis, Razorlight and Queen are among the other acts scheduled to appear at today's concert in London. As previously reported, the concert will be Winehouse's first public appearance since she was diagnosed with traces of the lung disease emphysema.
