Amy Winehouse Using St Lucia As Inspiration For New AlbumJune 5, 2009
Amy Winehouse is drawing in inspiration for her new album from her Caribbean surroundings, according to reports.
The Rehab star, who moved to the island of St Lucia in December, is believed to have asked local musicians to contribute to her as-yet-untitled third LP. Lyrically, the record will be influenced heavily by the island's folklore, according to The Sun newspaper. The news comes as Winehouse was pictured walking on a beach near to her Caribbean residence strumming an acoustic guitar. A source said: “She’s been recording with three local musicians who play traditional island instruments like the cuatro, which is a small version of a guitar, and shak-shaks, which are similar to maracas.” “She’s immersed herself in every aspect of island life and is particularly taken with the nation’s folklore. “She’s definitely going to call on the colourful content of the island’s legends for her new songs.” Winehouse's previous two albums were both heavily inspired by her private life, including her relationship with estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil. It is thought the singer, who cancelled a recent homecoming show in London, will release new material before the end of 2009.
