Guillemots: 'Eraserhead Adaptation Was Completely Improvised'July 23, 2008
Guillemots frontman Fyfe Danferfield has told Gigwise that the band's recent adaptation of David Lynch's 1976 movie Eraserhead was completely “improvised”.
Speaking about the film, which was shown to crowds at last weekend's Latitude Festival in Suffolk, Dangerfield revealed that the group had only seen it once together before they made the adaptation. Lynch's movie, which is considered a cult classic, is powered by unflinching sequences of non-linear narrative. “It was so nice doing something like that. That’s kind of the real us. Improvisation is what we do when we’re just by ourselves. You just go with it,” he told Gigwise. “I feel like I understand the movie a lot better now. When you watch a film, the older you get your brain process goes through all these different filters. It’s weird. "You’ll analyse something and almost over-think it. Whereas when you play music and start responding to something it’s a much more spontaneous and natural reaction. “You don’t think about it. It’s a more knee-jerk reaction. There’s no re-takes. We’re lucky to have a really good connection like that.” (by Mark Perlaki) See also: Fyfe Dangerfield Announces Solo UK Tour (19.11.2009)
