Jack White Criticises 'Unromantic' Download CultureJuly 23, 2009
Jack White has said download culture has made obtaining music an unromantic experience for fans.
The White Stripes and Dead Weather star said he didn't believe that illegal downloading was only detrimental to the artist. White also said falling album sales showed people no longer had a “moral conundrum” when it comes to file-sharing. “Oh well, that's the individuals personal battle to think about really,” he told BBC Newsbeat. “Download culture isn't a very romantic experience for the fan regarding art, it cheapens it and makes it fast forwardable, and disposable, and a lot of times ignorable. “That's a shame for a lot of art and music that isn't getting the chance that it would if people just left the needle on the record till the end of the side or what have you.” White has recently launched a special subscription service called The Vault, which is designed to reconnect fans with music.
