Aerosmith's Steven Tyler 'To Become American Idol Judge'

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler is set to become a judge on American Idol, it's been reported.

Tyler has apparently signed a deal to take one of the three remaining vacancies on the four-person judging panel.

Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres have both stepped down, while songwriter Kara DioGuardi has reportedly been axed.

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton told the Star-Ledger of New Jersey that “the ink is dry” on Tyler's deal to join the show.

"Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be,” Hamilton said.

“I don't know if American Idol will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler."

Tyler's role on the show has yet to be confirmed. The tenth series of American Idol is due to begin in January.
